Other Project Information

Carbon Emissions
Low moisture content wood pellet is sourced from the VERDO manufacturing plant in Andover. Wood pellet is considered to have a carbon footprint of 183kg per tonne while the equivalent annual carbon footprint for LPG is over 1030kgs (sourceL Carbon Trust), six times greater. The new pellet system delivers carbon savings of 17.8 tonnes per year.

Technical
The pellet store was designed and hold about 10 tonnes which means the fuel store needs to be filled twice a year. Meanwhile, in the old boiler room a control system distributes heating across 5 weather-compensated circuits such that thermal energy is deployed in response to indoor and outdoor ambient temperatures, saving fuel along the way.

Cost Benefit

Fuel Savings
The CHT was using over 130,000kWh with the previous LPG system at a cost of about £14,000 a year. We have now reduced the estimated annual fuel use to approximately 100,000kWh, with a net cost to the centre of just £6,700.

Renewable Heat Incentive
The site should generate over £8,000 per annum for the next 20 years.
